Ommegang Hennepin

Hennepin remains one of my favorite saisons. I have had trouble finding it in stores for a few years. Found a 4-pack recently, drank one bottle and liked it so much that I returned tot he store and bought 2 more 4-packs. I fear that it is now a seasonal release. It has great flavor and a touch of sour and je ne sais quoi. Here are previous reviews. I am keeping the rating @ 6 glasses because it lack the specialness of Fantôme.

Ommegang Idyll Days Pilsner

Here is a second review of the beer. It is what Ommgang ssys it is, a Belgian-style pilsner. I think they combine pilnser malt and Be;gian yeast. The result is more a Belgian blond ale or a light Belgian pale ale. 

Rating = 3 glasses (still).

Ommegang Idyll Days Pilsner

Idyll Days Pilsner is a pleasant European pale lager. Delicate may be the best adjective. Here is what Ommegang says. 

"Inspired by the tradition and ambience of the pastoral world around us, Idyll Days is a beautifully rustic Belgian-style pilsner. Brewed with authentic floor-malted barley from the Czech Republic, fermented with a Belgian lager yeast, and then patiently cellared until mature. Presented in its essential, unfiltered form, Idyll Days is glorious in its simplicity."

BeerAdvocate does not have enough review to rate the beer. It classifies the beer as European Pale Lager, not a Pilsner.

Rating = 3 glasses. I wanted more hop bite.

Ommegang Pale Sour

Ommegang Pale Sour is an easy drinking Wild Ale. Good with food. Slightly tart.

"A mixed-culture fermentation in open copper vats is followed by months of aging in stainless steel. Master blenders regularly mix new batches with older ones to achieve the ideal combination of flavors and the perfect balance of sweet and sour."

Rating = 4 glasses.

Ommegang Gift Pack

I purchased an Ommegang Gift Pack today from Costco. It contains one bottle each of Hennepin, Three Philosophers, and Chocolate Indulgence. It also contains a glass. Ommegang beers are typically good values and the gift pack is really good - three quality Belgian style ales plus a glass for $18. Hennepin is Saison, very good, and a great value for a Belgian style ale. It is one of my go-to beers. Three Philosophers is Quadruple w/ some cherry lambic added. Chocolate Indugence bills itself as Belgian Stout. BeerAdvocate classifies it as Belgian Strong Dark Ale. My beer stash now totals 160 bottles.
